Microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion is a clinical treatment which gently removes dead skin cells, resurfaces and hydrates the skin via mechanical exfoliation. Suitable for all skin types, this treatment will leave you feeling smooth, glowing and decongested.

Microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion is a process of mechanically removing the outer layer of dead or damaged skin from the face to treat blemished, wrinkled, aged and rough skin. The diamond-tipped treatment head exfoliates the outer layer of the skin and at the same time, the vacuum assistance gently sucks away the skin’s cellular debris in a clean controlled manner.

The water hydrodermabrasion treatment then cleanses the skin further and provides gentle hydration while continually removing dead cells from the upper most layer of the skin. This process stimulates the growth of healthy new cells, resulting is smoother, plumper and more radiant skin, better absorption of active ingredients, and improvement in fine lines and wrinkles.

What can you expect from your microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion experience?

Every new patient receives a tailored consultation with a cosmetic registered nurse – taking into consideration personal skin concerns, skin quality & medical history and in turn developing an individual treatment plan. Generally, a course of treatments will be required at regular intervals to achieve the best results.

Your skin will be cleansed and prepared with a special solution to ensure all dirt and debris is removed prior to your treatment. The diamond exfoliating tip is then passed over the skin, gently breaking up and vacuuming away dead skin cells from the upper most layer of your skin and any removing congestion in its path. A second pass of hydrodermabrasion will be done in a similar fashion to exfoliate and remove these cells, while infusing water to rehydrate the skin.

The treatment is generally well tolerated with minimal discomfort. This treatment can be likened to a light graze with minor tugging on the skin.

Following your microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion treatment, an enzyme infused mask is applied, allowing for active ingredients to infuse into the skin. After care products of serums, hydrating creams and SPF are applied to finish your treatment.

Your initial smooth and glowing completion can be seen immediately post treatment. However, to ensure optimal results are reached, we recommend a minimum course of 4 treatments in monthly intervals, dependent on the skin concern.

What are the risks?

While the microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion are superficial treatments with minimal risks of long term adverse results. certain considerations must be assessed.

Contraindications which must be disclosed to your practitioner include:

Active infection of treatment site
Active cold sores
Extremely sensitive skin
Those prone to keloid scarring
The use of isotretinoin (roaccutane) within 6 months

While microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion is safe to have while pregnant or breastfeeding, we ask that you disclose this to your treating nurse so modifications can be made.

What is the recovery like?

Microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion comes with minimal recovery and downtime, varying among individuals however it is typically minimal and will last between 1-5 days.

Immediately after your treatment, you can expect some mild redness at most and in the days following your skin may feel dry and tight and we recommend using predominantly hydrating skin care products – your treating nurse will recommend products suitable for you.

Common side effects of microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion include:

Uncommon side effects of microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion include:

Hyperpigmentation
Hypopigmentation
Superficial bruising
Scabbing

We recommend you do not use any active ingredients for 5 days post treatment, and refrain from picking at the dry skin. It is important that you stay out of the sun and wear SPF daily as your skin will be more susceptible to sun damage. You can wear makeup the following day.

It is vital in following the aftercare instructions explained by your clinician to ensure optimal results are achieved. In order to amplify your results even further, we recommend complementing your skin needling with a Healite II LED treatment straight after your treatment.
