Skin needling is an effective and minimally invasive treatment which promotes the production of collagen in the skin. At Clinispa we use the Dermapen 4 which is most advanced microneedling device available.

The skin needling Dermapen 4 device is a revolutionary technology that works by creating micro channels in the outer layer of skin (epidermis).

By creating thousands of micro channels to the superficial dermal layer and blood vessels of our skin, our body recognizes this as ‘trauma’, and will in turn trigger a controlled inflammatory response. Increased blood flow brings a range of regeneration of growth factors to the affected areas and in turn stimulates neocollagenesis (collagen) and elastin.

The micro-channels created by the needles also allows the skin cells to absorb up to 80% more active ingredients to assist in repairing the upper layer of the skin, making it healthier, tighter and brighter.

We offer tailored corrective skin serums that are infused with active ingredients, which are needled into the skin to for the most optimal results. These potent corrective serums assist in targeting pigmentation, scarring, hydration and rejuvenation.

What can you expect from the skin needling experience?

During your consultation the clinician will do a facial assessment and create a tailored treatment plan targeting your skin concerns.

Here at Clinispa, we use the Dermapen 4 for our skin needling treatments, which is a medical grade device allowing for treatment customization. Our clinicians are able to adjust the depth and speed at which the micro needles penetrate the skin, allowing for optimal results and better absorption of serums.

After your skin is cleansed and prepped, a prescription topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to ensure maximum comfort throughout your treatment. A bespoke mix of corrective serums combined with hyaluronic acid will be applied over your skin, where the micro needles allow for these ingredients to penetrate deeper into your skin, maximizing results. We offer an optional add on a clinical peel immediately after your skin needling treatment to amplify your results.

It is common to experience pin point bleeding during skin needling which is cleansed away. After your treatment, specific skin products are gently applied to the skin and aftercare instructions are given.

The initial skin tightening and pore reduction can be seen immediately after treatment. However, you won’t see your final microneedling results until four to six weeks after your treatment.

To ensure optimal results are reached, we recommend a minimum course of 4 -6 treatments in monthly intervals, dependent on the skin concern.

What are the risks?

While skin needling is generally a universally safe treatment, certain considerations must be assessed. Contraindications which must be disclosed to your practitioner include:

Active acne
Local infections of the skin
Active cold sores
Moderate to severe psoriasis or eczema
Those prone to keloid scarring
If you are on anticoagulation medications
If you are undertaking chemo or radiotherapy

Whilst we are not using any active chemicals, skin needling is not recommended during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding due to the initiation of the inflammatory response.

What is the recovery?

Immediately after your treatment your skin may appear red, feel warm and slightly swollen. This feeling is commonly related to feeling like a mild sunburn and may linger for the first 24-48 hours.

Downtime varies between individuals, however is typically minimal and will last between 5-7 days. Most commonly your skin may feel dry and tight, and you may experience light shedding of skin.

Common side effects of skin needling include:

Redness (erythema)

Dryness and peeling

Warmth in the skin
Post-treatment breakouts

It is vital in following the aftercare instructions explained by your clinician to ensure optimal results and healing. In order to amplify your results even further, we recommend complementing your skin needling with a Healite II LED treatment straight after your treatment.
